Jersey Shore’s Best Pork Roll, Egg, & Cheese

First, we would like to start by addressing the delicious breakfast meat that has a highly debated name for some reason. When at The Shore, it is always Pork Roll!

We do not speak of Taylor Ham. Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese is New Jersey’s most beloved sandwich. There is no better place to get a PEC cooked to perfection other than here at the Jersey Shore. With so many excellent breakfast restaurants and delis along the shore, it was extremely difficult to narrow down the competition. However, after some well-thought-out research and taste testing, it became evident who the real winners of the Jersey Shore’s best Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese breakfast sandwiches are:

Johnny’s Pork Roll and Coffee Too

Asbury Park Food Truck @northeats

If you are a garden state resident, you automatically got to give it up for a restaurant that has PORK ROLL in the title. Johnny Yarusi, the owner of Johnny’s Pork Roll, is New Jersey’s biggest pork roll ambassador, appearing on many tv shows and videos. Johnny takes a lot of pride in what he does and he certainly does it well. He says what really makes a good PEC is “A great piece of bread, a lot of love and care, a runny egg and white American cheese…You must burn the pork roll a little bit to give it a crispy, caramelized (finish).”Johnny stands out by using white, not yellow, American cheese. There are 11 kinds of pork roll sandwiches on the menu, including the Western (pork roll, egg, provolone, sautéed peppers, and onions) and the Pork Roll Rachel (pork roll, Swiss, sweet slaw, and Russian dressing on grilled rye).

Bing’s Deli, Avon-by-the-Sea

Bing’s beach house deli is famously known for its Porkroll sandwiches available for breakfast or lunch. The bread is always fresh, the meat is stacked high on every sandwich, and the prices are excellent. Bing’s is also very proud of its comfortable and welcoming atmosphere; where the clientele is part of the family. They even sell T-shirts with PREC on them! (If you don’t know what it stands for you are probably not from Jersey). bingsbeachhousedeli.com

Baron’s Bagels, Point Pleasant Boro

Baron’s is an old-time favorite in the Point Pleasant community. The bagels are homemade, outstandingly fluffy, and never disappoint. The pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich is massive, and probably in the running for the biggest on the shore. It could easily be split between two adults, and no one will be left hungry. Lots of sandwiches, drinks and coffee and really nice people run the place. Great place to grab breakfast and head to the beach.

Beckman’s Deli and Grill, Belmar

This place is a hidden gem and certainly a must-try. The pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches are so flavorful and savory. The pork roll is thinly sliced (not thick and rubbery like other places) and they grill it on the flat top so it is crispy on the outside edges. It is extremely juicy and just melts in your mouth. Don't let this hole in the wall pass you by if you're seeking the REAL jersey pork roll experience.

Rays Café, Sea Girt

This Sea Girt gem is an excellent place for breakfast all day. 25 years and well over a million eggs later, Rays Café is still creating countless memories and serving food to the community. There is a nice, homey feel to the place. Eat like a local at Ray’s Café.

Capsized Café, Spring Lake Heights

Capsized Café is a cute, nautical themed restaurant. This is a classic breakfast spot to hit for the beach or before you head home. The pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches are tasty and enjoyable. Overall Capsized provides a yummy, casual, and relaxed breakfast experience with a great atmosphere! capsizedcafe.com

AM Kitchen Spring Lake

This is the kind of place where everyone in town goes! It is a local eatery that feels like you’re visiting with family for a home-cooked meal. The pork roll and fried egg sandwiches are cooked with the freshest ingredients and are incredibly delicious. What makes this place even better is the ability to sit outside and enjoy the bustle of down town Spring Lake. Oh and they also deliver!! amkitchenspringlake.com

Divi Tree Coffee, Point Pleasant Boro

Divi Tree is a family-owned, artisan coffee company fueled by a passion for community connection and excellent, quality coffee. It is the perfect meeting place and has such a comfortable atmosphere that makes you feel at home. And not only do they serve the best coffee around but they serve an out of this world pork roll, egg, and cheese. The pork roll is cooked to a crisp perfection, the egg is runny, and the cheese is melted perfectly all on a sweet and fluffy brioche bun roll. This is not just another deli sandwich! You can tell by the quality that it is a homemade breakfast sandwich, made with love.
